The Freejack Files….

Posted May 31st, 2011 at 2:11 pm by Stephen Haw

Freejack

Way back in 1986, Mark turned to the decks after an advert caught his attention requiring a DJ to play at the roller rink. Mark, an avid record collector, got the job when he turned up with a bag of 7-inchs and started building a name for himself.

The next few years, Mark served his apprenticeship on the mobile disco circuit, 18th and 21st birthday parties, weddings, fashion shows and working men’s clubs.
Fast forward to the hot summer of 1988 and the UK was in the Summer of Love as the rave scene exploded. Mark was tuned to the dance beat after a staple diet of funk, soul, disco and hip hop had prepared him for this new dance movement.

Next thing he knew, he was playing a few festivals, field raves and barn parties.
From 91 to the present day, Mark has been on the club scene, playing and filling some of the North West’s premier venues like Manhattan Heights, Peppermint Place, Hacienda and home in Manchester, Tokyo Joes, Squires, Feel, Gamebird, XPO, Liquid, Lava and Ignite, Heaven & Hell, The Syndicate Blackpool and other top venues up and down the UK.

In 98 Freejack was the main man at Rock FM, supplying the music and mixing for the Friday Night Live club nights. In no time, he was on the air as the silent DJ on the Rock FM Hot Mixes for a variety of shows.

During 1999, Mark became the roving reporter for Rock FM on the white isle of Ibiza while he entertained the masses at Eden in San Antonio and Privilege in Ibiza Town. The following year, back in the UK, his mixes for Rock FM were played out at Radio Aire (Leeds) and Kiss 100 (London) and was noticed by national Radio1 when he was the warm up DJ at a few of their events containing 30,000 + clubbers.
His next project was the Rock the Dancefloor CDs and then the All Mixed Up series. He was also getting into the habit of remixing and producing his own music.
In 2001, Mark was asked to present an after hours club show – The Acid Test.

The show became legendary with clubbers, insomniacs and those on the late shift playing just about any style of music from house to soul, indie to big beat and techno to ambient, guest Djs included Sasha, Timo Maas,Grooverider,James Lavell to name a few.

Meanwhile, he was showing off his writing skills for the Lancashire Evening Telegraph with his regular club column which attracts 115,000 readers a week!

As Weekly Resident at 4+ Venues ‘Liquid’ Resident DJ – Various Venues also Lava & Ignite guested,Ministry of Sound, Bangkok – Bi-Monthly Guest Eden, Ibiza – Resident DJ for Floorfillers and shagtag,Specialist DJ for ‘Feel Classics’ @ UCLSU Preston guest on‘UK Uncovered’ – TV Show (Bravo), along with Guest sets at various events and club nights in Ibiza, Austria, Amsterdam, Prague, Chamonix

Freejack now hosts Floorfillers and has made this THE weekend show to listen to, playing house, trance and choice classics – nothing but big tunes also after coming in the top four specialist broadcasters for emap radio Floorfillers continues to break down musical barriers. interviewing such guests as Eric Prydz, fedde le grand, bodyrox, chris lake, crystal waters, alex gauldino, seamus haji and many more to name but a few.

At present Floorfillers has had 5 compilation albums out, toatal sales are passed the 400,000 mark and all have been inside the top 5 album chart .and with the latest Floorfillers anthems cd, history is bound to repeat itself….

Welcome to Southport Rocks 2011

Now in our third year at Victoria Park, Southport Rocks will be held on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th of July.

Formerly known as the Jedi Music Festival, 2011 will see the first official Southport Rocks take its place on the Great British festival circuit. This year we’ve introduced camping and ‘Glamping’ on both Friday and Saturday night so pack your wellies and your shades and prepare for a weekend at one of England’s classic seaside resorts. Showcasing the best of the UK’s new music we will also be featuring some firm festival favourites as well as classic cover bands to provide the soundtrack for your weekend. This year will see the dance tent bigger and better than ever before with sets from some of the UK’s top DJ’s spanning genres from house to techno, dub step to drum and bass and everything in between.

Our family friendly, not-for-profit festival will also offer local produce from across the region as well as arts and crafts on display. As always we will have physical activities taking place throughout the weekend to make sure all you festival goers are in tip top condition and there will be a wide range of food on offer to cater for all your festival cravings.
